WAC Days

Our WAC Days are a core part of our approach to nurturing strong, supportive relationships between students and staff. Taking place termly, these days give our students meaningful opportunities to connect, collaborate and build confidence beyond the classroom.

WAC Days run either as individual crew experiences for KS2, KS3, Year 10 or Year 11, or as whole‑school events. Individual crew days have included enriching visits to places such as Kirkley Hall Zoo and the Centre for Life, as well as team-building activities like bowling and gaming experiences. Crews often travel using public transport to help develop key independence and preparation for adulthood skills, while also strengthening peer relationships in real-world contexts.

Our whole‑school WAC Days often form part of curriculum immersion, launching new topics with memorable, hands-on experiences. These have included visits to Beamish Open Air Museum, as well as end‑of‑year celebrations featuring outdoor education activities such as paddle‑boarding and kayaking at Roker Beach. These shared experiences create a powerful sense of belonging and community, reinforcing our belief that at Evolve, we are crew, not passengers.

Enrichment and experiences

At Evolve, we actively seek out enriching experiences for our students, developing a deeper understanding of the importance of self-expression and creativity. We believe in the need to inspire and motivate our students, nurturing their passion for literature and encouraging them to embark on their own creative journeys.

One of our recent events was welcoming local author Daniel Tawse for a special afternoon of literary. Daniel engaged with our students, discussed the creative process, and shared insights into their personal journey as an author.

During the visit, Daniel conducted a workshop on the art of journaling, encouraging students to explore their own creative potential and express their thoughts through writing.
