Year 11 Crew

Welcome to our Year 11 Crew page. Here you will find updates, blogs and photos from the year.

Welcome to the first  Crew Blog from Y11! Sep 20th, 2024

Although it was tough to get back into early mornings and the usual routine, we've had a great week. It's a big year for us – the last one at school, so our excellence will be focused on getting GCSE ready.   We're going to ace it!

Our headlines this week:

Happy Birthday!  To Lakita, the oldest student in the school, and to Joe D, Leon and Caitlyn.  We hope they had a great day.

A big shout out all those who started the academic year strong by putting in 100% attendance.  Well done, guys!

Y11 – Oliver, Joe, Lakita and Sophia

Y10 – Caitlyn and Navanya

KS3 – Charlie, Alfie and Oliver

Our Crew has been joined by Mrs Coey – it's great to have here with us and we hope that she has enjoyed our company as much as we have enjoyed her cake!

We've all set LEAPs - Little Empowering Action Plans. Small changes really do make a big impact – watch the space to hear about our progress in our next blog.

Adventure Sunderland, by Oliver

In Week 1 at Adventure Sunderland, Y11 did bell boating and had to collect a rock that they would later paint their LEAP on. Students in Y11 said ''It was very enjoyable and collecting stones was fun”.  There was also some admiration of Oliver's big brick! When we set off to go to the beach the wind was blowing against us, so it took all our might to push forward and make it to the shore. It wasn't easy, but with the teamwork and coordination of Y11 we managed it. Getting back was much simpler as we glided on the waves, just making sure to turn so we didn't crash into any boats (although we came close!).

In Week 2, we were paddleboarding.  We practiced our turns and then had a go at rescue techniques.  The sea was super calm – not a dolphin in sight, but the sunshine and clear water made up for that!

Fit 2 Learn – Music, by Lakita

Right now I'm learning to play "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana, but before that it was "Fake Plastic Trees" by Radiohead. Mr Freeman has been helping us play trying to get everything right. Alfie that plays at the back of the room.  He’s amazing and even though I may not know the songs, just listening is the best. I've tried playing the lyre and it was pretty relaxing.  Fit 2 Learn music is good – I would recommend it.

Fit 2 Learn – Outdoors, by Teigan

This week in outdoor Fit 2 Learn, we've been focusing on ball games. More specifically, football and boules.

We've brought back boules! Currently, Teigan is the reigning champion, but Craig and Connor have recently given her a run for her money.  Joe, Oliver, Connor, Leon and Gavin have been getting competitive in football. This week, they’ve been focusing mainly on penalties, but not all of them went in the net due to Oliver's majestic goalkeeping skills.

Fit 2 Learn – Polymer Jewellery,  by Freya and Sophia

We have been focusing on marble effects.  You complete this is by choosing 3 coloured strips of polymer clay and then you roll each strip into a sausage like shape.  Once you’ve done that, if you'd like to you can add some gold, silver or rose gold leaf. You then fold until you’re happy with the effect, roll again and then you’ll reveal the beautiful marble design!

News Update by Willow and Joe

This week’s school highlights have been:

During Science we have been doing the water/carbon cycle.

In Maths, we have been working on ratio graphs

In English we finished off our 'An Inspector Calls' guide for Y10

And world news stories this week include Manchester City's court hearings started over their alleged breaches of FFP ( Financial Fair Play) from 2008-2018 following a four year investigation announced in February 2023. City has won 8 league titles and the Champions League. If City are found guilty they could be punished severely by means such as fines, relegation and as a result that would mean exits of their best players.

That’s all from Y11. Thanks for reading!
